John D. Engstrom
"Doug" is a National Referee Emeritus and is a special contributor and friend of PWSRA. Throughout his career he has garnered numerous assignments and awards including being the 2003 W League Referee of the Year. Doug started refereeing in his late 30’s, taking his first assignments with PWSI with U16B and U19B. Surviving those and actually have fun, he requested assignments with NCSL and his career was on a fast pace despite his late start. Well past the accepted age to start the process to become a National Referee, Doug persevered, taking numerous assignments from Richmond to Baltimore and beyond, eventually achieving his goal of National Referee. Doug maintains a very heavy college schedule of games but always makes time to work with the refs of PWSRA. Doug and his wife, Peggy, live in Montclair. They have one daughter, Jennifer, two sons, Chris and Erik, and four grandchildren, Brooke, Kaylob, Hunter and Cole.
